Home, Sweet Homegrown

Get inside the heads of some unusual characters tonight at A Singular Perspective, the 2008 season premiere of Colorado Homegrown Tales. Each episode of the series, which is now in its fifth season, is arranged around a theme and showcases the works of local authors in readings by local actors. "These are four stories that really caught my eye and that I was interested in, that fit that loose theme of stories told from a character's point of view," says series creator Debbie Knapp. "And they’re very interesting characters."

Dramatic readings from well-known Denver actors Emily Paton Davies, Debbie Knapp, Martha Harmon Pardee and Guy Williams will illuminate the viewpoints of characters as different as Carrie Vaughn's Emily Dickinson and Kent Nelson's modern-day man who heads to the hills to pan for gold, essentially abandoning society in the process. Those characters will be joined by the equally intriguing protagonists of a Lynn Hamilton story and a second Kent Nelson piece in the latter part of the evening.

The readings begin at 6 p.m. tonight at the Denver Book Mall, 32 Broadway. Admission is $10 and seating is limited, so reservations are encouraged. To make yours, call 720-233-0811 or visit www.homegrowntales.com.
