If you've always wanted to rub shoulders with the movers and shakers of New York City or tell a New Yorker cartoonist about one of your hilarious ideas then head for the high country, because Beaver Creek's signature funny event, Humor on the Slopes, is back for another year of laughs.
Humor on the Slopes kicks off today with a VIP welcome reception at 5:30 p.m. and a special performance by funnywoman Lisa Lampanelli at 7:30 p.m. (she'll also appear in Boulder tomorrow night). Tomorrow through Sunday, stop by the New Yorker Lounge between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. to get event information and to enter the cartoon-caption contest. Each participating cartoonist (Matt Diffee, C. Covert Darbyshire, Drew Dernavich, Carolita Johnson, Mort Gerberg and Paul Noth) has created a captionless cartoon; the person who supplies the best caption will receive a copy of the cartoon with his caption hand-lettered in by the artist.
Another event taking place tomorrow through Sunday (from 3 to 5 p.m.) is Kidtooning; participating kids draw a squiggly line, and a New Yorker cartoonist has to fill in the rest. And while the kids enjoy free cookies and hot cocoa at that activity, adults can join the artists for a drink and some improv cartooning during Cartoonists & Cocktails (3 to 5 p.m. daily).
There's much more going on all weekend, including a panel discussion and film screening tomorrow night and a comedy set by Jim Gaffigan on Saturday night. VIP packages are available for $195; they include comedy shows, welcome receptions and private parties and a gift bag. Visit beavercreek.snow.com/info/winter/wa.humor.asp or call 1-888-920-2787.
