Forget the Oscars

The red carpet, paparazzi, an art show, funny awards, clever advertisements and really great wrap-it-up music: These are things you won't find anywhere near a typical student film screening at the University of Colorado in Boulder. "Nobody wants to come to the student screenings," says film student Tony Castle. "If you come once, you'll never come again, because it's the worst night of films ever."

But tonight at 6 p.m., you can catch Castle's playful response: the Big Freakin' Deal Film Festival. Local beauties will escort attendees down the red carpet and through the flashing of photography-student paparazzi. Take time to explore the student art show before continuing to the awards ceremony/screenings.

The festival takes place at the Old Main Chapel theater, near Norlin Quad on the Boulder campus; tickets are $5 general admission, $4 for CU students and free for film students. For more information, go to http://bfdfilmfest.com or call 303-492-1531.
