Open Season

Last year, Tony Shawcross won a Westword MasterMinds award for the amazing work being done at Deproduction/Denver Open Media — and it just gets more amazing, as tonight's Open Source/Sustainability Party at the studio at 700 Kalamath Street will prove. "It's going to be awesome," Shawcross promises. But then, how could it miss? The free event, which runs from 6 to 11 p.m., will feature video mixing by dbom, electronic work from Ate Bitten, music by Magic Cyclops and the Wheel (Nathaniel Rateliff, with a couple of members from Bela Karoli), open-source film screenings, the debut of "EyeBelieve," a new partnership/short film competition, and "then the best part," Shawcross says, "a CD-swap, kind of like those holiday cookie parties, and you get to go home with twenty mix CDs. All the artists performing are going to participate in that." The fun will also be broadcast on KGNU, Comcast and the Internet — but if you watch at home, you'll miss the swap!
