Reel Life

When he was on the road, local standup comedian Christopher Cannon used to check out a lot of antiques malls. Often he would find a booth selling photographs. Stacked in a box were somebody's memories, family photos of smiling moms and dads. He wondered who the people were and where the photos had come from. Cannon figured there had to be 8mm movies out there in the same state, lost and decomposing.

Two years ago, he started collecting these forgotten home movies, and kept going until he had more than 20,000 feet of film. He digitized it, separated it into categories like "moms and dads," "birthday parties" and "vacations," and now he's created a show around it. 8 mm…A Reel Story centers on his favorite clips and incorporates music, monologues and comedy. With his project, Cannon hopes to pay homage to the people in the films and remind viewers to search their own attics and save their family histories.

"People are going to see their own family in these things," Cannon says. "After going through 20,000 feet of film, it's all the same."

The show starts tonight at 8 p.m. at the Rialto Theater, 228 East Fourth Street in Loveland. Tickets are $12, $10 for students and seniors. Call 1-970-962-2120 or visit www.ci.loveland.co.us/Rialto/Rialto.htm or www.comediancannon.com for info.
