Green Scene

This year, Denver is bringing Earth Day to the people. Its Earth Day Fair — which for the past few years was a small exhibition in the Webb Building for city employees — has been opened up to all residents and will be held in Civic Center Park.

"It's probably at least three times larger," says Thomas Strickland, program administrator for Denver Recycles. He says people who come to the fair will be able to get information on things they can do immediately to save energy and create less waste, with demonstrations on topics such as composting, water conservation and how to make your home more efficient. There will be more than twenty exhibitors, including officials with the city, RTD, the governor's office and the Environmental Protection Agency, explaining what various agencies are doing to make an impact. The city's hybrid vehicles will be on display, and Greenprint Denver representatives will be on hand to answer questions about the mayor's action plan for greening the city.

"It's an important opportunity to learn more about what 'sustainable living' actually means," says Greenprint's Denise Stepto.

The free fair, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Greek Amphitheater, includes entertainment and food. For information, go to www.denvergov.org.
