Brain Food

Chef Charlie Ayers discusses Food 2.0.

"What the hell is a search engine?" might seem like a funny question today, but in late 1998, Charlie Ayers had no idea what he was getting into when he applied for the chef position at a small dot-com endeavor. Ten years later, the iconic Google has expanded exponentially, and Chef Ayers has since prepared his special brand of locally grown, organic "brain food" for the likes of Google employees, former president Bill Clinton, Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay. "Every morning I got debriefed about someone new and special coming in that the rest of the world wasn't supposed to know about," Ayers says. "That's one of the things that made the job exciting."

Tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Tattered Cover, 2526 East Colfax Avenue, Ayers will discuss and sign his new book, Food 2.0: Secrets From the Chef Who Fed Google. And what do you feed a large group of brainchildren who need to keep their engines running all day? "I worked with foods that were light in preparation — lots of fish, lots of sushi, lots of juices," he says. "Let's just say I tried to avoid serving roast turkey dinners."

Admission is free; for more information, call 303-322-7727 or visit www.tatteredcover.com.
