Lost in Translations

Translations Gallery changes its spots.

Judy Hagler's Translations Gallery is turning a corner — literally — by swapping locations within the ArtDistrict on Santa Fe. Troubled by the lackluster exterior of her old spot, Hagler opted for a venue with an artsier urban façade and showroom, at 855 Inca Street; she’ll celebrate the move tonight with a Grand Re-Opening Reception from 5 to 8 p.m.

Ordinary Alchemy — a show of funhouse splat paintings rendered in incorrectly mixed acrylic latex paints from Home Depot by Los Angeles artist Cassandra Tondro, along with subtle vessels and sculptures made from natural materials by Wisconsin sculptor Christina Yocca — will be featured at the opening, along with live music and refreshments; both exhibits continue through June 14. And on the horizon at Translations, which focuses on works in fiber, mixed media, sculpture and furniture, is a juried show that will open in July highlighting art made from recycled materials — just in time to show off for the DNC delegates who'll be swarming through town.
