With a Flourish

A new exhibit looks at nature from an abstract angle.

Flourish "focuses on nature's full spectrum," says Debra Demosthenes, gallerist at Robischon Gallery, where the exhibition of paintings, prints and sculptures is being unveiled today. "It's not only leafy things, but dormant things and floral forms, all alluding to the concept of thriving and growth itself."

An artistic nonet contributes to the show, including out-of-towners Judy Pfaff, Ross Bleckner, Jamie Brunson and Katy Stone, plus Colorado expat Brad Miller and locals Terry Maker, Ana Maria Hernando, Rebecca DiDomenico and Trine Bumiller. The degree of abstraction varies from piece to piece, but in Demosthenes's opinion, the quality doesn't. "It's a really good mix, and it hangs together very well," she says.

The exhibit goes on view from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Robischon Gallery, 1740 Wazee Street, and stays up through June 21. Admission is free. In addition, an opening reception featuring appearances by several Flourish artists is slated for May 15; details are available at 303-298-7788 or www.robischongallery.com.
