When I was in high school, my friends and I would hang out on the patio of our local coffee shop on weekends, drinking our lattes and watching the boys cruise by in their beat-up, junky cars. We would sip and sip, and they would loop and loop, and our two groups would critique each other’s looks, clothes and cars. I don’t remember ever actually talking to any of the cruisers, but it was always fun to see what they’d done with their beaters during the week.

The Cruzin’ Havana Car Show and Poker Run is bound to be far more exciting than my high-school escapades. Today from 3 to 9 p.m. at five locations on Havana Street between Sixth Avenue and Dartmouth, you can attend a pinewood-derby car workshop, catch live entertainment, watch a pinewood derby, enter prize drawings, play at Kidz Zones and check out a huge variety of souped-up rides. Call 303-399-4256 or visit www.cruisinproductions.com for information.
