Sure, barbecues and fireworks are great — but this year, why not celebrate your patriotism with a real bang? In honor of Independence Day, Burlesque As It Was will shimmy and shake it in red, white and blue in their USO Burlesque Show: Stars and Striptease tonight at 8 p.m. at the Soiled Dove Underground, 7401 East First Avenue in Lowry.

Early arrivals will have a chance to pose with the girls in their World War II-era uniforms. The evening’s program will be hosted by sultry firecracker Big Mama Red, with eight girls performing in addition to our favorite local boylesquer, Charlie Champale. All branches of the military will be represented.

“We did the USO show last year at Lannie’s, and this year, we’re hoping that being close to Buckley Air Force Base will bring out the young military guys,” says Burlesque As It Was founder Vivienne VaVoom. So polish up your shoes and break out your uniforms, fellas, because these girls are on fire! Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling 303-366-0007 or visiting www.tavernhg.com/soiled_dove. For more information on the troupe, visit www.burlesqueasitwas.com.
