Frida Files

Last year, the Chicano Humanities and Arts Council threw a party for what would have been Frida Kahlo’s 100th birthday; the bash was so successful that CHAC decided to bring it back for an entire month. “Last year was mostly Frida,” notes CHAC director Crystal O’Brien, “but this year we’ve included Diego.”

The month-long exhibition Frida & Diego features work “in the spirit of Frida and Diego,” explains O’Brien. “I am so in awe of what the artists brought. It’s just a visual flavor explosion, because every medium is represented and the work is top-quality.” The show opened on July 2 and runs through the 26th; take it all in at tonight’s opening-reception Fiesta celebration. From 6 to 10 p.m., enjoy food (plus one free drink), a non-stop screening of Julie Taymor’s award-winning 2002 flick Frida, a Frida-and-Diego look-alike contest and much more. Tickets are $5 for CHAC members, $10 for the general public. CHAC is located at 772 Santa Fe Drive; visit www.chacweb.org or call 303-571-0440.
Sat., July 12, 6-10 p.m., 2008
