Round Table

Activism meets art meets food at the Welcome Table.

This weekend’s Welcome Table symposium at the Iliff School of Theology should prove that activism can lead to delicious food and honest creative expression just as easily as it encourages the cessation of such pleasures.

The symposium was created by the Veterans of Hope organization, which focuses on collecting oral histories of activists in the United States and other countries. Food will be the centerpiece of the symposium, but workshops in visual art, dance and vocal art will also be included, along with input from local activists. “Food is essential for our lives…and our creativity,” notes executive director Rachel Harding. “How many of the protests in these communities started around the kitchen table?”

The Welcome Table begins tonight at 6 p.m. and runs through Sunday at the school, 2201 South University Boulevard. A $10-per-day donation is suggested, and advance registration is required. Call 303-765-3198 or e-mail voh@iliff.edu.
