Telling Stories

You might already know about StoryCorps, a national initiative (featured every Friday on NPR’s Morning Edition) to document everyday history and the unique stories of hundreds -- if not thousands -- of Americans. But did you know that starting today and continuing through August 8, the StoryCorps MobileBooth (an Airstream trailer with a recording studio inside) is parking at Skyline Park, 17th and Arapahoe Streets, to document your story?

Here’s how it works: StoryCorps interviews are conducted between two people who know each other well; a trained facilitator will guide you and your buddy through the interview process for forty minutes, after which time you will receive a CD of your interview, and a second copy -- with your permission – will become part of an American Folklife Center archive in the Library of Congress.

StoryCorps will start accepting reservations for interview slots tomorrow, but you can stop by Skyline Park today to check out the trailer, learn more about the project and be entertained by the Rocky Mountain Storytellers Guild and Blue Turtle Tales. After August 8, the MobileBooth moves to the Wells Fargo Plaza in Grand Junction; for information, visit the Colorado Public Radio website, www.cpr.org.
