Every Dog Has Its Day

Fido Fest raises funds for shelter animals.

We’re a dog-loving bunch here in Denver, and I’m not ashamed to say that my own pooch is spoiled rotten — although he’s still well behaved and sweet as can be, which is more than I can say for some children. Vain Salon contains canine devotees after my own heart; every year, they host the Fido Fest, a fundraiser for Freedom Service Dogs, which rescues dogs from shelters and trains them to assist people with physical disabilities — a noble cause if ever there was one.

“It’s a block party/street festival,” explains Vain Salon’s Brian Tressler. “We have booths selling different items or giving out information about their business; we have some agility demonstrations scheduled; we usually have some demonstrations from people with Freedom Service dogs; dog washes; food; wine tasting — a whole smorgasbord of events and things going on. We usually have a DJ and a silent auction on some really cool items.”

Money is raised through the silent auctions and a doggie-wash station, which is run by Vain Salon stylists. Fido Fest takes place today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the 1800 block of Pennsylvania Street. For information, call 720-596-4511; visit http://freedomservicedogs.org to learn more about the organization.
