Tab Benoit

Tuesday, August 19, Herman's Hideaway, 303-777-5840.

Named Contemporary Blues Male Artist of the Year for the past two years by the National Blues Foundation, Tab Benoit rolls into town on a hot streak in support of his latest release, Night Train to Nashville. Expect Tab and his longtime backing outfit, Louisiana's LeRoux, to haul in a grit-laden load of blues with a whole lot of Cajun flavoring. From the growling Hooker-like boogie of the album's title cut to slower, more pensive numbers such as "Moon Comin' Over the Hill" and "Too Sweet for Me," Benoit and company mix blues, country and New Orleans soul that conjure the bayou and bring on summertime fever. In addition to this Herman's date, Benoit, who is an environmental activist and president of his own nonprofit, Voice of the Wetlands, will make a special appearance as part of the DNC delegates' welcoming party on August 24.
