All's Fair at the Fair

Even before Colorado became the 38th state in the Union, in 1876, the “state” fair had already dug in its spurs, showcasing bovine beauties and bucking bronco riders, wonder tonics and handicrafts. Nowadays, nearly half a million people round up the buckaroos and head to Pueblo for its eighty acres of something-for-everyone: livestock competitions, carnival rides, arts and crafts vendors and fireworks every night. This year’s 2009 Colorado State Fair musical headliners are the Smothers Brothers, the Guess Who, Colbie Caillat and Sugarland. Also on the bill are rodeos, monster truck rallies, demolition derbies and a tractor pull. Wear your horny boots, your bolo tie and your cowboy hat, and get to 1001 Beulah Avenue in Pueblo from 10 a.m. to midnight today through September 1. General admission tickets are $5 Monday through Thursday and $8 Friday through Sunday; kids six and under get in free. Prices vary for show/event tickets; for more information, including schedules and directions, call 1-800-876-4567 or visit www.coloradostatefair.com.
