State of the City

There are so many cool events going on throughout the city during the Democratic National Convention, and Dialog:City is at the forefront. Take tonight's performances of Throwaway/Runaway and Stand Up for Democracy as an example. Not only are the performances themselves don't-miss examples of Denver's cultural life, but they're also taking place in Minsuk Cho's "Air Forest," a special temporary pavilion in City Park.

Throwaway/Runaway is a play about teen homelessness written by ArtLab youth and directed by the renowned José Mercado; the performance tackles a range of issues pertinent to teens, from sexuality to drug abuse, and that performance starts at 6 p.m. Show Up for Democracy is the latest from PHAMALY (Physically Handicapped Actors and Musical Artists League); it's an educational one-act touring program dramatizing the importance of inclusion to the future of democracy, following a theatre ensemble founded in 1776 as it attempts to keep the show on the road, as it were. Show Up for Democracy begins at 7 p.m.; both programs are free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.dialogcity.org.
