Drowning Convention

Sure, having the Democratic National Convention in Denver caused some excitement, but the real party happens this weekend at the only DNC for drinkers: the Drunkard National Convention, sponsored by Modern Drunkard magazine. The debauchery begins today at 3 Kings Tavern, 60 South Broadway, with a meet-and-greet at noon and the opening ceremonies, Drunkard Dating Game, short-film contest and live entertainment starting at 7 p.m.

The drinking continues through Sunday, with performances from Burlesque As It Was and Oracle Dance Troupe, plus music from Drag the River, the Hollyfelds, Velvet Elvis, King Rat, Denver Joe and the Lovesick Saddle Tramps and more. For the price of a full convention pass ($49), you can also attend a number of soused seminars, get a drunkard tattoo, participate in a drunkard poetry jam or booze tasting, or just sit back and test your tolerance with the 20 Pint Gauntlet. The challenge is open to everyone, and if you finish all twenty pints within eight hours, the beers are free. Forget about winning the presidential race; this is a goal we can all get behind.
