The Rescuers

Best Friends founder Michael Mountain signs his new book.

If you’re an animal lover, then you might wonder what happened to the dogs from Michael Vick’s dog-fighting ring. Although not all of the animals found a happy ending, the cloud Vick cast over their lives had a silver lining for 22 of the pit bulls rescued: They ended up at Utah’s Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the largest no-kill animal haven in the United States, where they were cared for and rehabilitated. Those dogs are only one chapter in the Best Friends success story; the sanctuary also saved thousands of animals in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Everyone loves a happy ending, and tonight at the Tattered Cover Highlands Ranch, 9315 Dorchester Street, Best Friends founder Michael Mountain will sign his book Dogtown: A Sanctuary for Rescued Dogs, which shows how Best Friends’ team of vets, specialists, caregivers and volunteers are able to give these animals new hope. The program starts at 7:30 p.m.; call 303-470-7050 or visit www.tatteredcover.com.
