The Union

The Colorado European Festival celebrates our friends across the pond.

With the advent of the European Union and the euro, isn’t it about time America catches up with the geo-political trends beating on our borders? In other words, in this time of globalization, aren’t we poised to embrace a little togetherness already? But on the other hand, isn’t there a fine balance between unity and homogenization? The global eventually affects the local, and the Colorado European Festival is the prime place to celebrate our neighbors across the pond. “It’s like a cultural program for Americans,” says media contact Lidia Widgery. “This festival brings ten to twelve European countries together. Every year you have the Polish festival, the Hungarian festival, the German festival, but we will bring everyone together. It’s like a union.”

Today starting at 10 a.m. at Civic Green Park, 9370 Ridgeline Boulevard in Highlands Ranch, enjoy multicultural fare from Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Poland, Greece, Romania and Sweden. Also, take in live performances by the Russian Folk Music Group, the Gypsy Swing Revue (jazz), Skean Dubh (Celtic), the Colorado Ballet Academy (jazz dance), Rhythms of Spain, Magyarock (Hungarian rock), Singing Ukraine and much more.

Admission is free; for more information, call 1-616-712-2569 or go to http://eurofestival.org.
Sun., Sept. 7, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., 2008
