River Art

Art is about individual vision, about seeing and interpreting similar objects in vastly different ways. It’s a reflection of our humanity that a group of artists can go to a specific location — like the Platte River — and come away with entirely different ideas as to what they witnessed. Today, the Art Students League of Denver unveils Art on the River, their homage to the mighty Platte.

“Artists go to a specific part of the river and either work in plein air or take photos and work in the studio,” explains Cindy Sewell, marketing and public-relations director for the League. The resulting works are primarily two-dimensional and focus on watercolor, oil and acrylic paintings, mixed media and drawing.
