Taking Debate

Dennis Prager and David Sirota face off.

Who knew? Talk is powerful stuff, and conservative talk-show host Dennis Prager has a huge and enthusiastic clan of fans here in Colorado, many of whom meet on a regular basis to discuss the radio chatter’s syndicated program (heard locally on KNUS-AM 710). They’re so enthusiastic, in fact, that Colorado Prager Fans invited their champion to make an appearance here so they might kneel at his feet and drink in his witticisms. Okay, to each his own. Incidentally, he agreed.

So then they had to hunt down a worthy liberal to debate Prager, which eventually led them to local citizen, columnist, author and progressive wunderkind David Sirota, who eagerly jumped at the chance. The upshot? The two will meet tonight at 7 p.m. for a formal debate on “What's Better for America — Liberal or Conservative Ideas?” While presumably trying to make sense of that question — in the wake of two intense platform-touting conventions, who even knows which ideas are which anymore? — Prager and Sirota will duke it out over current topics, including the economy, foreign affairs and cultural issues. The fun starts at 7 p.m. at South High School, 1700 East Louisiana Avenue; University of Denver business ethics and legal studies prof Corey Ciocchetti will be on hand to try to keep the two speakers (not to mention the audience) in line.

Admission is $21 in advance or $25 at the door; for details, go to www.pragerevent.com.
