In comedy years, these ladies are no spring chicks. Denver’s funniest females came out of their comedic shells long before any mention of a glass ceiling, and the weapons they use with force — punchlines — have people, not glass, cracking up.

Tonight, female birds of comedic feathers will flock together during Chicks Rule at the Larimer Square Comedy Works, 1226 15th Street. And if someone gets too comfortable nesting in the crowd, she could wind up with egg on her face. Featured comedian Lori Callahan says if an audience member looks like a good mark, she’ll hit the target. All in good fun, of course — and she promises to ease back if someone chickens out.

Denver native Callahan has been seen on Showtime’s Comedy Club Network as well as ESPN's award-winning Lighter Side of Sports, and she’s toured with Jeff Foxworthy, Paula Poundstone, Will Durst and Thea Vidal. “I try to focus on comedy that everyone can relate to,” she says, “almost to the point where someone might think I’m peeking at them from the closet.” And don’t worry, guys: Callahan assures the topics are not all about male-bashing. Although chicks rule the stage, no man or woman will be left out of the mix.

Nancy Norton, another nationally touring comic, will also headline Chicks Rule. Norton has appeared on A&E’s An Evening at the Improv and starred in her own one-woman show, The Yellowish-Green Girl.
