Entertain Me

Jump aboard the Noises Off bandwagon.

In the 1930s and ’40s, screwball comedy was an often-manic remedy to the Depression-era problems surrounding people on a day-to-day basis. With the economy once again in a nosedive, wouldn’t it be great to forget about all the political bickering, government bailouts and rising gas prices for a little while?

Noises Off, a zany comedy about a fun-loving, less-than-perfect theater group in rehearsal, can help you do that. “It really is just plain stupid — that’s the best way to describe it,” says the Denver Center Theatre Company’s Chris Wiger. “It’s kind of an old-fashioned comedy with lots of physical comedy. I think there are seven or eight doors on stage that people are constantly going in and out. It’s the early ’80s, so the costumes are just ridiculous. You’ll laugh from the time you enter to the time you leave.”

Noises Off starts tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Stage Theatre in the Denver Performing Arts Complex, and runs through November 1. Ticket prices vary; for more information, call 303-893-4100 or go to www.denvercenter.org.
