Hop To It

Savor tasty fall beer at the Falling Rock Tap House.

How much do you know about hops? If you know that they’re female flower cones as well as agents that preserve and add aroma to beer and balance out the sweetness of malt, then you’re ahead of most people, but you can learn even more at today’s second annual Fresh Hop Celebration at Falling Rock Tap House, 1919 Blake Street.

“It’s so unique, because fresh-hop beers have a very short shelf life,” explains event manager Nicole Jarman. “They’re only good for about a month, so these are beers you won’t be able to find on the street. They’re unique and special brews.” Like, for instance, celebration participant Deschutes Brewery’s Hop Trip Ale, which brews within hours of harvesting the hops, skipping a kilning process and adding a layer of citrus aroma.

In addition to the fresh-hopped beer, you’ll find information on home-brewing, contests and more. The party takes place from noon to 5 p.m.; call Jarman at 303-242-1032 for details.
Sat., Oct. 18, 12-5 p.m., 2008
