No High Fives to Bullshit at Old Curtis Street
On first blush, the music these guys make sounds a whole lot like a poppier version of the melodic hardcore we've heard in this town for the past decade and a half-plus. One song into the band's set, though, it dawns on you that what you're hearing is not just an edgier pop/punk/hardcore hybrid as much as a stirring brand of punk we don't often get to experience. Without losing an ounce of attitude or aggression, No High Fives to Bullshit (due at Old Curtis Street on Wednesday, October 22) incorporates atmosphere, swirling guitar dynamics and an honest, homegrown artiness that comes from natural creativity rather than contrivance. As the band's name suggests, any latent foolishness gives way to some of the most exciting music to come out of Denver's punk-rock underground in years.
