From Geek to Chic

What, exactly, would you wear to a prom on Mars or to change a bad energy pod as you cruise through the galaxy? Most sane people don’t put much thought into questions like these, but at MileHiCon 40, it’s not so out of place — considering the company. Today starting at 3 p.m. (for contestants) or 4 p.m. (for spectators) at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 7800 East Tufts Avenue, Project SciFi Runway is a chance for Con members to show off some Project Runway style while preserving their antennae. “I always try to put a couple of items on the schedule that we haven’t done before,” says media contact Rose Beetem. “It’s all about creativity — that’s what science fiction and fantasy are all about. Anyone can participate; they just have to show up at 3 o’clock.” The guidelines are as follows: In addition to the provided materials (including an extra-large T-shirt, a roll of duct tape, aluminum foil and bubble wrap), you can bring a copy-paper-sized box filled with the raw materials of your choice. Upon arrival, you will be given a theme and an hour to let your imagination run wild.

Admission is the price of Con membership; for details, go to www.milehicon.org.
