Funny Girl

Paula Poundstone stands up for KBDI-TV at the Newman Center.

Paula Poundstone is lucky. If she wasn’t so funny, she’d be that crazy lady at the end of the street who plays board games with her cats (which would number in the double digits). Instead, she’s been on the road for almost thirty years winning audiences over with her standup routine, and she’s now a regular guest on NPR’s Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me! and a spokesperson for Friends of Libraries USA. Tonight she’ll stand up for another bastion of free speech — KBDI-TV/Channel 12 — at an 8 p.m. benefit show at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts, where her jokes are sure to cover everything from AA to the zeitgeist. The Newman Center is at 2344 East Iliff Avenue, on the University of Denver campus; tickets are $39 plus applicable fees and can be purchased at 303-357-2787, www.kbdi.org or any Ticketmaster outlet.
Sat., Oct. 25, 8 p.m., 2008
