One Book, Many Attitudes
Have you read this year’s One Book, One Denver selection, Dashiell Hammett’s The Thin Man? What did you think? “There’s a lot of drinking in the book,” notes Gina Rubano of the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs, “and quite a bit of misogyny, and so we wanted to talk about how the social mores have changed. That kind of drinking is no longer acceptable, and neither is the treatment of women in the workplace.”
Local experts will lead a discussion about how our social views of drinking and women have changed since the book was published in 1934 at today’s We’ve Come a Long Way, Baby: A Conversation on Drinking and Dames. Head to the King Center Recital Hall on the Auraria campus (855 Lawrence Way) tonight at 6:30 p.m. to hear what the experts have to say. Admission is free.
