A six-foot-tall Venus flytrap. An elaborate scene from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Maybe just some spider webs and a jack-o-lantern. There’s no telling how volunteers and businesses will decorate their trunks for the City of Thornton’s second annual Trunk or Treat event.

“It’s something that obviously touches a nerve with this community,” says aquatics specialist Kris Davison, citing the more than fifty vehicles and 800 kids who participated last year. “People really get into it.” Besides vehicle-themed trick-or-treating, kids can also explore the Garden of the Ghouls haunted walk — and do it all without worrying about real-life creepers.

“I think that Thornton is a safe place,” adds Davison, “but for those people who are concerned about it, this is just one thing we want to offer them.”

Sweets, treats and tricked-out trunks coalesce between 7 and 9 p.m. at the Thornton Multipurpose Field Parking Plots, 108th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. Admission is $1 for kids, free for parents and guardians. Get more information at www.cityofthornton.net/rec/TOT.asp or by calling 720-977-5917.
