My Sister Outlaw at the Lion's LairBy Tom MurphyPublished on October 22, 2008 at 10:10amFormed in early 2005, My Sister Outlaw began life as the Sirens but played only one show under that name before switching to its current moniker after former Catatonic Lydia drummer Sophia Throop came on board. The group is one of the few all-female bands in Denver. But rather than being a gimmick that idiotic, crypto-male chauvinists would like to dismiss out of hand, this foursome writes catchy and forceful experimental indie rock. Although clearly influenced by the psychedelic music of the late '60s, My Sister Outlaw (due at the Lion's Lair on Friday, October 24) ultimately sounds like PJ Harvey fronting a latter-day riot grrrl group. Insecure men are always intimidated by strong women, but if you don't carry that particular baggage, you'll have fun at a My Sister Outlaw show.
