Anarchist Ball

What, exactly, is Louis Vuitton Night? “That’s a great question,” says organizer Adam Tinnell. “The show itself is inspired by the anarchist variety shows in Paris in the late 1800s,” he explains, as well as Dada and drag shows in Harlem. “It’s not just a show where you go to see music; it’s a happening of sorts. And the point is to make anarchism more accessible to everyone and to show that anarchists like to have fun.

“It’s not scary,” Tinnell adds. “It’s really acceptable, I think.” Tonight’s installment of Louis Vuitton Night — which takes place on the last Thursday of every month at the Mercury Cafe, 2199 California Street — has a fashion theme of “masquerade” and the usual amalgamation of random, crazy acts, such as Milton Melville Croissant III, the Radical Knitting Circle, Yellow Elephant, Seven Falls Indian Dancers, Suzy Homewrecker, Hector Munoz, and a fashion show called Daytime Dreamfun Daydream Funtime.

“With each show, we put out a zine that has artwork and writing from around the world,” Tinnell says. The theme for this next issue is “trans.”

Stop by the Merc tonight at 9:30 p.m.; cover is $3. Call 303-294-9281, e-mail louisvuittonnight@gmail.com or visit www.myspace.com/louisvuittonnight for information.
