Rachel Crick and the Signtologist collaborate in Reflections.

See revered hip-hop icons in a unique light at Reflections: Two Great Tastes That Taste Great Together, a show that pairs photographs of the musicians by so-cial documentarian Rachel Crick with paintings based on her work by the Signtologist, an artist who paints on recycled street signs. Crick’s portraits are more naturalistic than the usual glamour-focused images of hip-hop artists, while the Signtologist produces bold, iconic images that reflect a street-art sensibility. The collaboration has produced what he considers some of his best work. “I’ve never really been able to work with a photographer who takes photos of this nature. There’s a lot of great subject matter and portraits of famous people that you’ve never seen in this type of light,” he explains. “It’s kind of cool — not only to see Rachel’s photography, just because it’s different views of people you’re used to seeing if you’re flipping through a hip-hop magazine — but also taking it to another level and having it conveyed through how I see it.”

The show opens tonight at the Robusto Room, 9535 Park Meadows Drive in Lone Tree, with a free reception from 7 to 10 p.m., and continues through the end of the month. For more information, visit www.therobustoroom.com or call 303-790-7363.
