Adventure Film Festival

We're pretty spoiled here in the metro area when it comes to film and film festivals. That goes double for all you adrenaline junkies and nature lovers out there who live mere minutes from the Adventure Film Festival, a fest homegrown out of Boulder that showcases dozens of independent films — produced nationally and internationally — about, well, adventure.

The Adventure Film Festival kicks off Thursday, November 6, and runs through Saturday, November 8; highlights include a film-student program, filmmaker workshops and, of course, the flicks themselves, which cover topics from fly fishing to landfills to mountain biking to climbing to BASE jumping, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Activists will want to catch Conviction, which tells the story of a symbolic act of disarmament by three Roman Catholic nuns at the dawn of the war in Iraq; aspiring marine biologists won't want to miss Sharkwater, in which filmmaker Rob Stewart attempts to understand sharks — and why people want to kill the awesome animals. There's bound to be something custom-built to suit everyone's specific adventure tastes.

Festival screenings take place at the Boulder Theater (2032 14th Street), the B-Side Lounge (2017 13th Street), Neptune Mountaineering (633 South Broadway #A) and the Patagonia Store (1212 Pearl Street) in Boulder; tickets are $10 per show, but why not splurge on the $50 full-festival pass?
