Even though Metro Station has probably been able to capitalize on the fact that its lineup includes Trace Cyrus (half-brother of Miley Cyrus, star of Hannah Montana), the band's music stands on its own merit. "Seventeen Forever," Metro's breakout hit, established a sound grounded in the melding of '80s synth-flavored rock with the modern fusion of emo and dance pop. Some will perhaps hear unwitting hints of Ultravox and the Outfield here, and while those elements might seem like the perfect recipe for something wretched, these guys make it work, coming off as catchy, polished and energetic without being vapid. Metro Station is not for everyone, but those who appreciate well-crafted synth-pop will find something to like.
