Let There Be Light

Chris Armijo’s whimsical and often beautiful light fixtures take functionality to a whole new level: Fashioned from such everyday plastic items as paper clips and Wiffle balls, they represent the collaborative spirit of the Downtown Aurora Visual Arts gallery’s holiday show, Luz: a little bit of light in a big, dark world. Luz features works by entrepreneurial DAVA youth and guest artists such as Armijo. Gallery manager Viviane Le Courtois (an intriguing artist in her own right) thinks holiday shoppers will more than appreciate the well-stocked gallery’s variety of affordable art giftables, including hand-printed silkscreen tees and totes, printed stationery, stuffed animals, mosaic trivets and other student-made items, as well as Armijo’s lights, paintings by Brian Robertson, bohemian leather purses with recycled embellishments by Mignon Harris, wooden jewelry by Trevor Marrs and collaged mixed-media paintings by Brian Robertson. Nothing in the room will cost you more than $500, and all of the kids’ works range in price from a few bucks to $50.

The Luz exhibit closes today; find DAVA at 1405 Florence Street in downtown Aurora; go to www.davarts.org or call 303-367-5886.
