Game On

Competitors, get ready: The third annual Colorado Cutthroat Connection Fighter Frenzy tournament is on. To succeed, you’ll need catlike reflexes, quick thinking and the kind of meticulously conditioned thumbs you can only get from years of intensive controller training. A deep, instinctual knowledge of Halo 3, Soul Calibur 4, Super Smash Bros. Brawl (or any of the other featured games) and a skilled teammate couldn’t hurt, either. Winners will earn points to qualify for the organization’s state tournament in June, along with cash prizes of up to a thousand bucks.

Events for singles and two-player teams are on the roster, and tournament officials will help match up lone players with teammates. If you’re not in it for the money and don’t live and die by the controller, no worries: There will be plenty of opportunity for friendly game play all day today and tomorrow. Tickets are $10, which includes entry both days, free energy drinks and all the casual play you can cram in. Tournament registration is an additional $10 per team member per game, and gives you a shot at the cash prizes. It all starts today at 8 a.m. in the Tivoli Turnhalle, 900 Auraria Parkway; details at www.coloradocutthroat.com.
Nov. 28-29, 8 a.m.-11 p.m., 2008
