Temples at the Larimer Lounge

As the visionary guitar wizard in Moth Eater, Kevin Richards established a unique sound. Grounded in an understanding of jazz guitar filtered through experimental improvisational music and a post-hardcore aesthetic, Richards's playing seems to recognize no distinct sonic boundary. Temples (due at the Larimer Lounge on Friday, November 28) is his entirely instrumental project. Don't look for the aggressive bombast of Moth Eater here, though; you won't find it. This music is more contemplative and thought-provoking than it is provocative and adrenaline-releasing. Richards's circular playing style makes you feel as though he's transporting you to other states of consciousness. At the very least, the sounds take you to the tranquil places in the mind and spirit where the roots of imagination grow and blossom into larger notions and finally into dreams and ideas. This is music good for both the heart and the soul.
