Let Us Eat Cake

A Grande Finale Patisserie makes the case for fruitcake.

Fruitcake has a reputation for being the worst gift ever — at least here in the United States. And there’s a good reason for that: The fruitcake we’re used to seeing in these parts is of very poor quality. “I think it’s important to bring back really high-quality fruitcake,” says A Grande Finale Patisserie’s Nicole Hedlund. The Grande Finale fruitcake, for example, is made with pineapple, papaya, mango, cherries and pecans, then soaked in brandy for seven days. Hedlund challenges the public to try it before writing fruitcake off for good.

In that spirit, A Grande Finale is hosting a Rally to Bring Back Real Fruitcake. Stop by the store today at 2 p.m.; the first twenty visitors will receive a free T-shirt, and the rally will march down Louisville’s Main Street to spread awareness — and, more important, samples of fruitcake that you could give as a gift to someone you actually like.

A Grande Finale is at 641 Main Street in Louisville; call 303-926-4084 or visit www.agrandefinale.com.
