Straight Ballin'

"One of the things I’ve noticed about my closet is that I have some really pretty things that never get worn because I never get to go to anything formal,” notes Shakti, founder and CEO of the non-profit Yoga World Reach (which is committed to bringing yoga into communities and lives that otherwise wouldn’t experience the life-changing practice). That’s why the organization is hosting its 2008 Holiday Ball, an eco-formal benefit and awards ceremony honoring five people and organizations.

“By eco-formal, all we mean is, please don’t buy anything new,” Shakti explains. “If you can get something recycled from Buffalo Exchange or on eBay, then that’s great, or if you can find something in your closet — but we’re just really interested in this entire event having a green feel.

“We’re going to be launching the Yogi’s Choice Awards,” Shakti continues; the actual awards are scheduled to be presented in January 2010, but honorary awards will be given tonight to Elephant Journal for going paperless, Pangea Organics, Prana, Shanti Nicosea and the Chanda Plan Foundation. The ball takes place at Prana, 1147 Pearl Street in Boulder; admission is a suggested $45 donation at the door (and all attendees who RSVP get a 25 percent discount on Prana merchandise today and tomorrow). Stop by at 6 p.m. for dinner, dancing and the award ceremony; visit www.yogischoiceawards.com and www.yogaworldreach.org or call 303-886-9039.
Sat., Dec. 13, 6-9 p.m., 2008
