The Jeff Hamilton Trio

Friday, December 12, and Saturday, December 13, Dazzle, 303-839-5100.

Jeff Hamilton has quite an impressive pedigree: In his twenties, the drummer played with jazz heavies like Lionel Hampton, Monty Alexander and Woody Herman. In his thirties, meanwhile, he performed with Ella Fitzgerald, the Count Basie Orchestra and Rosemary Clooney, and has since toured with Oscar Peterson and the Ray Brown trio and served as co-lead of the Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra with brothers Jeff and John Clayton. This weekend at Dazzle, Hamilton, who's equally at home in the big-band or trio format, will be joined by bassist Christoph Luty and pianist Tamir Hendelman, who both appear on the Jeff Hamilton Trio's latest disc, From Studio 4. For his part, Hendelman has been in high demand lately, lending his talents on albums by Michael Bublé, Natalie Cole and Gladys Knight. Add in the deft bass skills of Luty, and you've got one incredibly dynamic trio.
