Buntport’s Starship Troy comes in for a landing.

It’s sad but true: All good things must come to an end. And that includes Buntport Theater’s innovative (and hilarious) live sitcoms. The company started experimenting with Magnets on the Fridge in 2001; its current live sitcom, Starship Troy, follows a crew aboard a flying garbage truck — in space. But every cloud has a silver lining. What better way to say goodbye to 2008 and ring in 2009 than by watching the very last episode of Starship Troy, followed by Buntport’s New Year’s Eve Winter Semi-Formal?

“It will be our 100th episode of live sitcoms,” says Buntport’s Evan Weissman. “Eight years, and it will all come to a close.

“The fun thing is that we’re getting a suggestion from the audience of how we should end it. Normally, they just suggest a book or a movie or some piece of art, and that’s what we base it on, but this time there will be suggestions for an ending. So if they say everybody blows up, or everybody sniffs a magical flower and goes to Happy Flower Land — whatever it may be, we’ll do.”

And the semi-formal will be the perfect way to send Starship Troy into the land of lost live sitcoms. “It’s a lot of fun,” Weissman enthuses. “It’s an over-21 party; the punch is often spiked when people get there.”
