Your Cheatin' Art

From John F. Kennedy’s blonde ambition to Bill Clinton’s cigar, Larry Craig’s bathroom footsie and Eliot Spitzer’s golden call girl, politicians across all ages, sexual orientations and political affiliations are renowned for their indiscretions and infidelities. But whether it unfolds in the 24-hour news cycle or in the privacy of one’s own home, infidelity is a devastating transgression that destroys families, lives and political careers. Opening today at 5:30 p.m. at the Art Students League of Denver, 200 Grant Street, Everybody Loves a Train Wreck (Unless You’re on the Train) visually explores this complex and life-shattering topic.

“For the most part, it’s two-dimensional work,” says ASDL marketing and PR director Cindy Sewell, “They’re really focusing more on the politicians who are dragged in front of the microphone to explain themselves, although the artwork doesn’t necessarily portray any person in particular.”

Stories on Stage will add its unique voice to the topic on January 15 and 16 at the Jones Theatre in the Denver Performing Arts Complex, where Denver actors will read an original story about infidelity submitted by a local writer. “During the performance, we’ll be projecting digital images of the artwork,” notes Sewell. Admission to the Art Students League is free.

Tickets for Stories on Stage range from $18 to $22. For details, call 303-494-0523 (Stories) and 303-778-6990 (Art League), or go to www.denvercenter.org or www.asld.org.
