Serious Series

A Rocky Mountain PBS dramedy uses all local talent.

Good grief — what a production! It took about 175 actors, writers, crew, support professionals and musicians to come up with this original television mini-series, which premieres on Rocky Mountain PBS/Channel 6 tonight. The thirty-minute 'dramedy,’ called Good Grief, is about the lives of three Hispanic sisters who run a coffee shop on a university campus, and their customers. Their brother, who funds the shop, is in Iraq but due back at the end of the week. The series comprises seven episodes, with a cast and crew drawn from current and recent UCD students and area professionals.

The series was co-produced by Rocky Mountain PBS, dc dakota films, and the College of Arts & Media at the University of Colorado Denver, and was created by Craig Volk and Arts & Media students. Volk is an assistant professor of theatre, film and video production at UCD. “My big hope is that it becomes a regional model for how you can create narrative TV that has substance and that can air on multiple mediums,” says Volk. The show can be watched on TV, the Internet or a mobile phone.

Good Grief runs nightly at 10 p.m., January 26-30, then returns on February 2 and 3 for the final two episodes.
Jan. 26-30, 10 p.m.; Feb. 2-3, 10 p.m., 2009
