Green Speak Happens

Thomas Friedman spreads the good word about an eco-friendly planet.

Global warming will, sooner than later, fry the planet; free-for-all globalization will decimate our common concepts of commerce; unchecked overpopulation and its voracious demand for resources will burden the earth beyond its capacity to renew. And that’s the good news. The bad is that America’s addiction to foreign oil is fueling the very petro-dictatorships that directly or indirectly incubate global terrorism.

Gird yourself for the message that three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times foreign affairs columnist and best-selling author Thomas Friedman will offer tonight. He’s stopping in at the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Macky Auditorium in support of his latest work, Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution — And How it Can Renew America. No doomsayer, Friedman calls for replacing our old fossil-fuel power production and consumption model with a “geo-greenism” that embraces clean, renewable energy technology. With America leading this charge, he argues, we can once again claim to be the leaders of the free world, finally making nice with Mother Earth while softening geo-political nastiness in the Middle East.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at any King Soopers or by logging on to www.ticketswest.com. Doors open at 6:45 pm; the presentation starts at 7:30.
