Tyva Kyzy Times Two

It’s not every day that a group of all-female Tuvan throat singers and folk musicians stop in town, so consider yourself lucky to be able to hear Tyva Kyzy not once, but twice this week. “It’s pretty cool, because I think they’re the only all-female ensemble of throat singers in that tradition,” says Swallow Hill Music Association’s Laura McGaughey. “They’re very much entrenched in music that is reflective of their culture, and they have their own instruments that are very unique. They play very traditional, legendary folk instruments from that area.”

Catch Tyva Kyzy tonight at 7 p.m. at Swallow Hill, 71 East Yale Avenue; tickets are $18 to $21 general admission and $15 to $18 for members. Call 303-777-1003 or visit www.swallowhill.org. If you can’t make it tonight, head to Boulder tomorrow for a $10 lecture and demonstration at 7 p.m. at Naropa University, 2130 Arapahoe Avenue in Boulder. Call 303-444-0202 or visit www.naropa.edu.
