Big Screen BashSee all five Oscar-nominated best picture films in one day.By Jonathan ShikesPublished on February 19, 2009 at 1:02amLong ago, before our kids were born, my wife and I used to pick a day in February to see all five movies nominated in that years Academy Awards Best Picture category. The hardest part was coordinating times and locations all over town, especially when one or two of the flicks was only showing at an art-house theater. The trick was starting early, building in time for real food and ending with an uplifting film (not always easy). If only wed had the AMC Best Picture Showcase, which allows glassy-eyed movie hounds to see all five Oscar-nominated movies on the same day for only $30 (including a free large popcorn with unlimited refills). Its not easy. You have to get your mind right several days before, says AMC spokeswoman Laurie Roberts. But at least you can bring in your own food if you want; you can order a pizza. The marathon begins with Milk at 10:30 a.m. today at the AMC Highlands Ranch 24, 103 West Centennial Boulevard, and the AMC Westminster Promenade 24, 10650 Westminster Boulevard in Broomfield. Its followed by The Reader, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Slumdog Millionaire and Frost/Nixon. Tickets and information are available online at www.amctheatres.com or at the box office.
