Giving TestimonyBy Amber TaufenPublished on February 19, 2009 at 1:01amEveryone seems to understand the appeal of watching a film in the theater, and many of us also get the appeal of cuddling up with a good book. But in my opinion, theres a severely underrated form of narrative entertainment that some people just dont know about: Sitting in a theater and listening to someone weave a tale in person brings me back to my childhood, settling in for the night while my mom or dad told me a story. Ah, memories. Thats why I think were so lucky to have Stories on Stage, monthly collections of themed stories read on stage by local actors. This months presentation is Personal Testimonies, featuring the stories Why I Like Country Music, Rules of the Game, The Management of Grief and The Viaduct Scene, from the 1929 Marx Brothers film The Cocoanuts. Catch this round of Stories on Stage today at 1:30 or 6:30 p.m. in the Denver Performing Arts Complexs Stage Theatre; tickets are $22, $18 for groups, and if youre really strapped for cash, you can ask about the LoDough pay-what-you-can program. Call 303-494-0523 or visit www.storiesonstage.org.
