Mania Attraction

I was just wondering the other day: What’s the haps at the Denver Community Museum, the pop-up Platte Valley venue offering rotating exhibits of themed artworks and other contributions made by regular old citizens like you and me? A lot, it turns out: Currently on view through this Friday, March 6 (the museum is only open Thursday to Saturday, so don’t drop everything and run over there today), is My Little Mania, which is pretty much what it sounds like: artifacts imbued with personal passions, the kind that spill over into flat-out obsessions.

In a day and age when someone’s collecting habit can become the subject of a major art museum exhibition (as it has at the Lab at Belmar, where The Astounding Problem of Andrew Novick is now on view; go to www.westword.com/2009-01-22/calendar/the-stuff-od-stuff for more on that), this show fits right in. And so will the one generated by the next DCM community challenge: Bottled Up! DCM will accept entries of personal memorabilia sealed up in a bottle from noon to 5 p.m. on March 6 and 7; all ages are welcome to enter, and it’s free both to visit and to participate.
